Jim Ford Urges Fire Victim Tax Relief
Issued May 16, 2008

PRESS RELEASE

Brevard Property Appraiser Jim Ford said today that he will be dispatching personnel to the fire damaged areas to determine the extent of loss in property value.

He said his staff is already compiling information on potentially damaged properties from the recent series of fires countywide and especially in the Palm Bay area. All victims of the fire damage are encouraged to contact the Property Appraiser’s Palm Bay branch office (map) at (321) 952-4574 to insure that their property will be reviewed.

Ford released a letter (see attached) to the Brevard Legislative Delegation today, a copy of which is attached, urging the members to provide property tax relief to the victims of the fires. He stated that in 1998, 1999, 2004, and 2007 laws were passed by the Legislature that provided meaningful relief to hurricane, tornado and fire damaged property owners and that it is time to step forward again with economic relief for taxpayers dealing with this current catastrophe.
